House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled a retooled health care overhaul plan today intended to bridge differences among Democrats and open a history-making floor debate on extending health insurance to nearly all Americans.
Speaking on the West Front of the Capitol surrounded by Democratic lawmakers, Pelosi, D-Calif., said the House's version of a health care reform bill will include a government-run insurance option and extend coverage to 36 million uninsured Americans. Former President Clinton's selection to go to North Korea to negotiate the release of two U.S. journalists is raising some eyebrows inside the beltway. The fact that the Obama administration even chose to let Mr. Clinton go abroad, though the White House is calling this a solely private mission, may show that they are warming up to the idea of getting him involved.
